South Reach
Includes: Pine Trails, North Shore, Cloverleaf Community
Chair: Omar Escobar, LJA Engineering and Surveying
The South Reach of Greens Bayou extends from US 90 to the Houston Ship Channel. Within the Port of Houston, the South Reach is marked by heavy industry. Chevron, BASF, Shell, Kinder Morgan and many others maintain large operations near the port. In contrast, the upstream portions of the bayou are the most natural stretches of the bayou.
Priorities
Waste water treatment and a canoe trail are the primary goals of the South Reach.
- Meetings are occurring in the unincorporated area of the ship channel to explore the feasibility of a regional wastewater treatment facility, which will help spur economic development in the area.
- From a recreational perspective, the very natural section of Greens Bayou’s South Reach is a favorite canoeing destination for determined canoeing enthusiasts. With no dedicated trail or put in/take out points, access for boaters is lacking. The City of Houston, through the Houston Parks Board, is collaborating with GBCC to turn approximately five acres at the intersection of Greens Bayou Drive and Dwight Street into a canoe launch park, which South Reach volunteers have offered to help clear. Additional canoe trail access points are being considered.
