Trash Bash 2023 - We Cleaned It Up!

On March 25, 2023, Greens Bayou Coalition hosted 119 volunteers at a Greens Bayou site for the first time. We met at W. E. "Bill" Crowley Park and Pct. 2 shuttles took volunteers to two different cleanup starting points - the stormwater detention basins at MUD 461, and the flood control tributary with access at Brookside Cemetery. (We thank the owners that kindly allowed access to or through their property!)

The volunteers, arriving from all over Houston, included Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls, teens needing community service hours for school, school clubs, corporate groups and interested community members. Altogether, we put in 1395 hours of volunteer time and picked up over 1200 pounds of trash along 5 miles of bayou! "AWESOME" doesn't begin to describe the day or the people involved!

Trash Bash 2023 along Greens Bayou was sponsored by Harris County Precinct 2 - Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Halliburton Charity Foundation through Greens Bayou Coalition, and East Aldine Management District. We are also very thankful for the assistance of the Harris County Sheriff Department and Harris County Emergency Corp, and of course, the Harris County Flood Control District.

Trash Bash is a region-wide event coordinated and sponsored by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Conservation Fund. This year included 14 sites along Rivers, Bays and Bayous in the Houston/Galveston area. Thousands of volunteers work together to pick up tens of thousands of pounds of trash that collect in our waterways. We are already preparing for next year. Make plans to join us in 2024!
